Cartersville Little League 8-10 year old team wins District 1 championship


The Cartersville Little League 8-10 year old baseball tournament team won the Georgia District 1 championship Thursday night with an 8-7 extra inning victory over Bartow County at Hamilton Crossing Park.


Cartersville led 4-3 after one inning and had a 5-3 lead before Bartow County scored three runs in the bottom of the third to grab a 6-5 advantage. Cartersville moved ahead 7-6 in the top of the sixth but Bartow sent the game to extra innings with a run in the bottom of the frame.


After keeping Bartow off the scoreboard in the top of the seventh, Cartersville took advantage of three straight walks and pushed across the winning run with a groundout.


Cartersville reliever Drew Morris worked a scoreless seventh inning to pick up the pitching victory. He struck out one. Brock Morris worked the first six innings on the mound for Cartersville and fanned four.


Cade Rogan led the Cartersville offense with three hits. Anthony Hunt and Easton Stephens followed with two hits each. Alec Higgins and Jack McCurry added one base hit apiece.


Declan Parker had three hits for Bartow County. Knox Janssen, Gabe Wise, Parker Rampley, and August Blasengame produced one hit each.


Bartow County finished the tournament 2-2 with wins over Cedartown and Rockmart. The two losses were both one-run decisions to Cartersville.


Cartersville went 3-0 to capture the district title. They will travel to West Point Little League July 9 for the Georgia Little League 8-10 year old state tournament.



8U COACH PITCH BARTOW GREEN PLACES 4TH AT GRPA STATE TOURNEY

The Bartow Green 8U coach pitch baseball team defeated St. Simons 7-6 in extra innings in an elimination game Thursday morning, but was eliminated later in the day with a 9-8 loss to West Jackson.


As a result, Bartow Green finished fourth in the 12-team GRPA state tournament at Riverbend Park in Dalton.


In the win over St. Simons, Jake Nida had two hits including a double. Cole Baker also finished with two hits. Hank Earwood had the walkoff hit in extra innings. Cooper Adcock contributed a double. Brody Morrow, Titus Childers, and Camden Forsyth added one hit apiece.



Bartow Green finished the tournament 3-2 with a win over Crisp County and two wins over St. Simons. The losses came to West Jackson and Jefferson.



CARTERSVILLE GOLD 12U FINISHES SEVENTH AT GRPA STATE TOURNEY


The Cartersville Gold 12U baseball team was eliminated from the GRPA state tournament Thursday with a 6-3 loss to Colquitt County.


Cartersville Gold finished 1-2 in the tournament and tied for seventh place.


In Thursday’s loss, Cartersville led 3-0 heading to the bottom of the second inning before Colquitt scored five times to take the lead for good. Colquitt added an insurance run in the fourth.


Darren Cole and Steven Tumlin both had one hit and one RBI each against Colquitt.


Corbin Mullinax (2 IP, 5ER, 8H, 2BB, 2K) and Andy Holstein (3 IP, 1ER, 3H, 3BB) both pitched for Cartersville in the loss.
