Cartersville Little League 9-11 year old team outlasts Bartow County to win District 1 championship


The Cartersville Little League 9-11 year old tournament team won the Georgia Little League District 1 championship Sunday by taking the rubber game of a three-game series with Bartow County Little League.


Cartersville won the series opener Saturday at Hamilton Crossing Park, 3-2. Bartow County won the second game of the series 6-3 Sunday afternoon but Cartersville bounced back to win the deciding third game, 14-7, to claim the District 1 banner.


In Saturday’s Game 1 win, Cartersville scored all three runs in the top of the third inning on four of the team’s nine hits in the game.


Demetrius Wynn, Max Stepp, Will Groce and Trey Smith had two hits each for Cartersville. Everett Owens added one hit.


Cooper Rampley had the only hit for Bartow County.


Bartow County won Game 2 of the series Sunday afternoon, 6-3.


Maddox Koontz and Cooper Rampley paced the Bartow offense with a pair of hits each. Bryce Patterson, Tate Broome, Jax Huskins, and Cole Williams added one hit each.


Everett Owen and Hudson Lovette had one hit each for Cartersville.


The Bartow win in Game 2 forced a deciding Game 3 Sunday won by Cartersville, 14-7.


Cartersville scored four runs in the top of the first and added one run in each of the next four frames to maintain the lead.


Bartow scored a run in the bottom of the third to make the score 6-1. Bartow then added two runs in the fourth and batted around in the fifth to post four runs that cut the Cartersville lead to 8-7.


Cartersville then put the game away in the top of the sixth by sending twelve men to the plate to score six times.


Everett Owen and Braxton Lemon led the Cartersville attack with three hits each. Demetrius Wynn, Blake Forstie, and Noah Leffew followed with two hits each. Parker Huth, Will Groce, and Braxton Harkness added one hit apiece.


Jax Huskins and Tate Broome had two hits each for Bartow in the Game 3 loss. Bryce Patterson and Maddox Koontz added one hit apiece.


The Cartersville Little League 9-11 year old team advances to the Georgia Little League State Tournament that begins July 9 at Athens Little League.
