Cartersville Little League teams come up short at NW Georgia Sectionals; Local teams prep for GRPA tournaments

Three Cartersville Little League tournament teams battled in Peachtree City last weekend through Tuesday, but came up short in their bids to reach the Georgia State Tournament.


The Cartersville Purple 8U team finished runner-up in the double-elimination Northwest Georgia Rookie League Tournament to Smyrna Little League 8U Blue. Cartersville 8U Purple defeated host Peachtree City 15-5 in their tournament opener, but dropped two games (5-3 and 9-3) to the eventual champs.


The Cartersville Purple 9U team finished third in the Sandlot Northwest Georgia Tournament. Cartersville 9U defeated Bartow Blue 17-1 before falling to Smyrna Blue 7-1 and Smyrna Red 11-5.


The Cartersville 7U team competed in the Northwest Georgia Coach Pitch Tournament, but was eliminated in two games. 


Local youth teams will begin playing in the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District 5 softball and baseball tournaments this weekend.


Cartersville and Bartow County will be represented in the 10-team 8U Coach Pitch Softball Tournament at Westside Park in Whitfield County. Bartow 8U begins play on Friday night against Calhoun, while Cartersville will play Rome on Saturday morning. The double-elimination tournament continues through Wednesday, June 11.


Bartow County will have a team in the six-team 10U Machine Pitch Softball Tournament in Trion that begins on Thursday night. Bartow 10U has a first-round bye and will play the winner of the Rome/Murray County first-round game on Thursday night. The double-elimination 10U Machine Pitch tournament will conclude on Saturday afternoon.


The five-team 12U Softball Tournament begins on Monday, June 9 in Trion and will include a Bartow County team. Bartow plays Trion in the opening round on Monday evening. The double-elimination tournament continues through Thursday, June 12.


The 15-team GRPA District 5 Coach Pitch Baseball Tournament begins Friday night at Westside Park in Whitfield County. Cartersville and Bartow County will each have two teams entered. The double-elimination event continues through Wednesday, June 11.


Rome and Floyd County will host the District 5 GRPA 10U Tournament. Games will be played at Riverview Park, North Floyd Park,  and Lower Alto Park. Cartersville and Bartow County will have teams competing in the 14-team double-elimination tournament. Cartersville faces Rome Blue on Friday at Riverview. Bartow squares off with Summerville on Friday at North Floyd. The tournament continues through Friday, June 13.


Bartow and Cartersville have teams entered in the 12U District 5 Tournament at Heritage Point Park in Dalton. Cartersville plays LaFayette, and Bartow County faces host Dalton in the first round on Thursday night. The 11-team double-elimination tournament runs through Wednesday, June 11. 


Last weekend, the Cartersville Little League 7U All-Star team represented CLL at the Georgia Northwest Section Tournament in Peachtree City.
