Cartersville riflery team remains unbeaten; honors seniors

Maggie Sheffield earned Top Gun honors as CHS Rifle moved to 12-0 on the season, defeating Woodstock on Tuesday by an overall score of 1139-1089 while hitting the X 57 times compared to the Wolverines’ 24.


Senior Night honored Lucy Evans, Lucas Gibson, and Graham Farrell. Evans will continue next year as a member of Morehead State University’s Rifle team. Gibson has served as the team manager and a shooter and will leave for the Navy upon graduation. Farrell, also on the JROTC sporter team, plans to join the Army after graduation. 


Sheffield, a junior, shot 100-8 in prone and 292-14 overall. Evans was on her heels with a perfect 100-10 in prone and a 289-22 score. 


Chance Van Pelt finished third for the Canes and fourth overall with 281-11. Bryson Newport scored 277-10, and Emma Daughdrill scored a 274-8. Gibson finished with a personal-best 265-4. 


The Canes travel to Ridgeland on Thursday, January 15 for their first match this season on electronic targets.
