Cartersville soccer teams suffer losses

The Cartersville High girls' soccer team lost their Region 7-5A showdown with Dalton on Tuesday night and will finish as a region runner-up.


The No. 2 seed position for the Lady Canes ensures a home, first-round state playoff game when the Class 5A state playoffs begin in mid-April.


Dalton, who beat Cartersville 4-0, finished 5-0 in region games and will be the region’s No. 1 seed. The Lady Cats improved to 7-4-2 on Tuesday.


The Dalton boys defeated Cartersville 9-0 on Tuesday to finish region play with a 4-1 record. The 3rd-ranked Catamounts (11-3-1 overall) led 3-0 at the intermission and added six more goals in the second half. Dalton will either finish second or in a three-way tie for first pending the outcome of the Cass (10-2-1, 4-0) at Calhoun (9-4-2, 3-1) match on Thursday.


The Cartersville boys also dropped a non-region home match with Cedartown on Wednesday, 3-1. 


The Cartersville boys (3-12) play another non-region match at Sandy Creek on Thursday. The Canes also have non-region regular season matches after Spring Break at home against Ringgold (April 9) and at Rome (April 11).


The Cartersville girls (8-6, 4-1) have a non-region regular season match at home on April 9 against Ringgold.
