Cartersville softball maintains region lead, Cass falls at Calhoun

Cartersville softball closed out Dalton Thursday night on the road with a 10-run fifth inning as the Lady Canes won 14-3.
A tight game through four innings, Cartersville exploded for eight hits and took advantage of a pair of Dalton errors in the top of the fifth inning.
Kennedy Stevens (2.1 IP, 0R, 0H, 2BB, 3K) picked up the Cartersville pitching win in relief of starter Ava Perkins (2.2 IP, 3ER, 3H, 2BB, 2K).
The Lady Canes totaled 13 hits.
Jordan Bishop had four hits including a double and one RBI. Elizabeth Nelson was next with three hits and one RBI. Mikey Lewis (home run, 3 RBIs), Kiley Arnold, and Perkins (home run, four RBIs) produced a pair of hits each. Layne Callan added one RBI.
The loss dropped Dalton to 5-12 overall and 3-8 in region play.
Cartersville (13-8-1, 11-1) has Region 7-5A games at home Tuesday and Thursday against Woodland and Cass. Both matchups are scheduled for 5:55 p.m. first pitch.
CALHOUN 5, CASS 0
The Lady Colonels lost their third straight region game and dropped their eighth game in their last nine starts Thursday night at Calhoun.
Cass pitcher, Emma Gibson, gave up eight hits and four walks but only three earned runs in the loss. The Colonels’ offense was limited, however, to only three hits and failed to score.
Athens Hudson tossed a complete game for the Lady Jackets (19-6, 10-2) and struck out five.
Ansley Hight, Alexis Woods, and Haylee Dishmon had the three Cass base hits.
Cass (8-17. 5-7) hosts Hiram Tuesday before traveling cross-town to play Cartersville Thursday. Both games are 5:55 p.m. starts.
