Cartersville splits region matches with Woodland, Calhoun

Cartersville split a pair of volleyball matches Thursday night and Woodland dropped both of its matches in action at Calhoun High School.

Cartersville defeated Woodland 25-15, 25-13, but then narrowly lost to Calhoun in three sets. Calhoun won the opening set 25-23. Cartersville won the second set 25-22 and the Yellow Jackets won the deciding third set, 15-12.

Woodland also fell to Calhoun, 25-18, 25-7.

Lauren Lawson led the Canes attack against Woodland with six kills. Ailee England and Vanessa Johnson added four kills each with two assists. Lily Gochee contributed 13 assists and one dig for Cartersville.

Delaney Tuplin had two blocks, one kill, and one dig for Woodland. Lili Womack finished with four digs and one ace. Shaine Whitlock had three assists. Anastyn Jones contributed two digs and one kill while Haylee Roach added two service aces and one kill for the Lady Cats.

In the Hurricanes loss to Calhoun, Lawson had nine kills followed by London Moultrie with eight kills. England finished with five kills and seven digs. Gochee totaled a dozen assists and two digs. Tennessee Abernathy ad 11 assists with two digs. Mia Nicklas was credited with 11 digs and Layne Condra added seven digs for the Canes. In Woodland’s loss to Calhoun, Womack had nine digs. Tuplin finished with seven digs and a pair of kills. Jones totaled three kills, three digs, and two aces. Madison West contributed two kills, three digs, and one ace while Shane Whitlock added six assists.

Cartersville returns to action Tuesday night at North Cobb Christian. Woodland will host Villa Rica and Darlington next Tuesday.
