Cartersville sweeps Rockmart at Storm Center; Lady Colonels collect road win
Both Cartersville basketball teams picked up home wins Tuesday night over Rockmart and the Cass girls won a non-region matchup at Dunwoody.
CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 58, ROCKMART 39
The Lady Canes took a 17-8 lead by the end of the first quarter Tuesday night at the Storm Center and never trailed in a 58-39 win over visiting Rockmart.
Cartersville led the Lady Jackets 31-18 at halftime and 52-25 by the end of the third period.
Nayel Camper and Ansley Griffin led the Lady Canes’ scoring with 18 and 16 points, respectively. Jakayah Draughn scored seven. Campbell Rogers, KK Arnold, and Senai Camper finished with four points each. Miley Jo Williams contributed three and Taff Bradley added two points in the home win.
Sky Meyers led Rockmart (3-10) with 17 points.
The Lady Canes (7-3) play at Cedartown Saturday at 5 p.m.
CARTERSVILLE BOYS 69, ROCKMART 57
The Purple Hurricanes came from behind in the fourth quarter Tuesday night at the Storm Center to defeat visiting Rockmart, 69-57.
The score was knotted at 19 each at the end of the first quarter and the Yellow Jackets held narrow leads of 37-35 at halftime and 53-52 at the end of the third quarter.
The Canes outscored Rockmart 17-4 in the fourth quarter to secure their 12-point win.
Jamauri Brice led Cartersville with 18 points. Romo Pace followed with 12. Jaylen Scott and Sam Wiedetz finished with eight points each. Monte Tolbert scored six. Kaden Baldwin and Collin Fletcher contributed five points each. DJ Cain chipped in with four points and Parnel Gamble added three for the Hurricanes.
Tyler Crumley scored 20 points to lead Rockmart (7-6). Dennis Sims and Tristan Anderson added 12 and 10 points, respectively.
Cartersville (5-6) plays another non-region game Saturday at Cedartown at 6:30 p.m.
CASS GIRLS 63, DUNWOODY 40
The Lady Colonels ran away from host Dunwoody in the second quarter Tuesday night and finished off a 63-40 win over the Lady Wildcats.
Following a close first quarter, Cass outscored Dunwoody 23-5 in the second quarter to build a 36-15 lead at the intermission. The Lady Colonels maintained their advantage in the section half for a 23-point win.
Mikaela Jackson led Cass in the scoring column with 19 points. Olivia Woods followed with 13 and Kiana McDaniel finished with a double-double that included 10 rebounds, 10 assists, and eight points. KK Evans contributed seven points, five boards, and three steals. Darianna Sosa scored six. Kaitlyn Godwin tossed in five points. Nevaeh Woods had three points and Cadie Paez added two for the Lady Colonels.
Grace Brinson paced Dunwoody (1-10) with 11 points.
Cass (12-2) begins Region 7-5A play next Tuesday (Jan. 10) at home against Calhoun.
