Cartersville volleyball captures 18th consecutive Bartow County title

Cartersville won its 18th straight Bartow County Volleyball title on Saturday at the Storm Center.


The Lady Canes went 4-0 in the competition and overpowered runner-up Adairsville in the finals, 25-9, 25-8.


In preliminary round action, Cartersville defeated Adairsville 25-9, 25-11. They beat Cass 25-4, 25-5, and also had a victory over Woodland.


Adairsville defeated Cass 25-11, 25-21, and Woodland 25-16, 25-22 to reach the title match.

Woodland beat Cass in straight sets during preliminary round action.


Adairsville (6-16) hosts Northwest Whitfield and Calhoun on Tuesday, while the other local teams play on the road.


Cartersville (21-5) travels to Cedartown and will also face Bremen. Woodland (7-17) visits Allatoona, where it will also play Hiram, and Cass (2-16) makes the trip to Dalton to play the host Catamounts and Southeast Whitfield.

Charles...I read with interest your article on the CHS Volleyball Team winning its 18th consecutive Bartow Country title.


My family moved to Cartersville in summer of 1996. My oldest daughter Shayne enrolled in the 10th grade at CHS. Shayne was a volleyball player but there was no volleyball team at CHS. My wife Judy brought the idea of starting a team to the CHS administration and the next year, 1997, was the inaugural season.


Shayne played her junior and senior year before graduating in 1999. Shayne was joined by her sister Kristy, who was a freshmen in 1999, and played four years before graduatiing in 2002. Kristy received a volleyball scholarship to play at West Georgia.
