Cass softball topped by Bucs

Kelly Young had one of only three Cass hits in Saturday's home loss to Allatoona.

Allatoona scored three runs in the top of the fifth inning Saturday to break open a tie game and went on to defeat Cass 5-2 in a non-region matchup at the Cass Athletic Complex.

An infield error started the visiting Buccaneers fifth inning and set up a sacrifice bunt followed by three consecutive RBI hits.

Allatoona (4-10) led 2-0 until Cass scored twice in the bottom of the third on a two-RBI single by Alexis Woods.

Cass pitcher Rachael Lee suffered the loss in a complete game start. She allowed seven hits and no walks with three strikeouts. Three of the Bucs’ five runs were earned.

Eryn Lee and Kelly Young had the only other Cass hits.

The loss dropped Cass to 9-11 on the season. The Colonels, who are tied with Cartersville for the final state playoff berth from Region 7-AAAAA, have a doubleheader Thursday at Hiram. Cartersville has a doubleheader Wednesday at Blessed Trinity.
