Cass sweeps Excel Christian; Cartersville boys top Carrollton

The Cass girls' and boys' basketball teams swept home victories Tuesday night over Excel Christian Academy. The Lady Colonels won 67-15, and the Colonels clipped the Eagles 68-51.
At the Storm Center, the Cartersville boys won their season opener over Carrollton, but the Lady Canes lost to the Lady Trojans.
CASS GIRLS 67, EXCEL CHRISTIAN 15
Anizah Taylor and Nakayla Evans scored 12 points each as the Lady Colonels defeated visiting Excel Christian Academy. Darianna Sosa added eight points for Cass.
The Lady Colonels led 16-7 after one quarter and were up 32-11 at the intermission.
Chae Vieira led Excel with seven points.
Excel Christian (0-2) plays at Academe of the Oaks on December 2.
Cass (1-1) hosts Sonoraville on Friday.
CASS BOYS 68, EXCEL CHRISTIAN 51
Excel led throughout the first half but a 50-point outburst by Cass in the second half turned the contest.
The visiting Eagles led 17-11 after one quarter and 26-18 at halftime before the Colonels rallied.
Cass outscored Excel 25-10 in the third quarter to take a 43-36 advantage en route to a 17-point win.
Comari Nettles led Cass in scoring with 14 points. Derrick Sams followed with 13. Xavier Lowe scored ten, and Dylan Miller added nine.
Evan Chappell paced Excel with 20 points. Kaiyu Huffman scored 11.
Excel (3-2) hosts Galloway on Thursday and Cornerstone Prep Academy on Friday.
Cass (1-2) hosts Sonoraville on Friday.
CARTERSVILLE BOYS 60, CARROLLTON 47
The Canes led 14-11 after one quarter and 27-18 at halftime in an eventual 13-point home win over the Carrollton Trojans.
Wyatt Thomason led Cartersville with 16 points. Nas Bennett and Will Bishop followed with 14 and 11, respectively.
Kamaree Mays scored 16 points for the Trojans.
The loss dropped Carrollton to 0-3 on the season, with earlier losses to Peachtree Ridge and South Cobb.
Cartersville (1-0) visits Trion on Saturday afternoon.
CARROLLTON 45, CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 31
The Lady Canes dropped their season opener at home Tuesday night to Carrollton, 45-31.
The Lady Trojans (1-1) led 18-13 at halftime and maintained that five-point lead after three quarters before pulling away in the final stanza.
Daya Preston led Carrollton with 15 points. Madison Reese, Miyah Holmes, and Gracie Byford added eight for the Lady Trojans.
Jayda Cothran scored 15 points to lead the Lady Canes. Senai Camper finished with seven.
Cartersville (0-2) hosts New Manchester on Friday at 6 p.m.
CHATTOOGA 60, WOODLAND BOYS 41
Chattooga led 16-15 after one quarter and 27-22 at the intermission. The Indians added to their lead in the third quarter to go up 46-37 and pulled away in the final eight minutes for a 19-point win.
Chattooga improved to 3-0.
Woodland (1-2) visits Gordon Central on Friday for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
CHATTOOGA 61, WOODLAND GIRLS 2
The visiting Lady Indians improved to 3-0.
The Lady Cats (0-3) play at Gordon Central on Friday at 6 p.m.
