Cass sweeps Woodland; Cartersville teams fall at Hiram

The Cass girls and boys basketball teams earned Region 7-5A wins Friday night at Woodland while both Cartersville teams suffered losses at Hiram.

CASS GIRLS 51, WOODLAND 36

The Cass girls won at Woodland Friday night, 51-36.


The Lady Colonels led 25-14 at the intermission.


KK Evans led Cass with 14 points. Tamira Feanny added 10 points.


Libby Morgan and Gracie Shipp scored nine points each for Woodland. Megan Echols added six points.


Woodland (7-15, 0-10) and Cass (15-10, 4-6) will begin play in the Region 7-5A tournament on Monday at Cartersville High School. 




CASS BOYS 65, WOODLAND 61


The host Wildcats held leads of 12-8 after one quarter and 27-23 at halftime before the Colonels caught them at 40-all by the end of the third quarter.


Cass outdistanced Woodland 25-21 in a high-scoring fourth quarter to squeeze out the region win. Jakai Baldwin and Kyron McClendon combined for 16 of the Colonels’ 25 points in the final period.


McClendon led Cass with 17 points. Comari Nettles and Baldwin followed with 14 points each. Kevin Henderson added 13 for the Colonels.


Brelace Williams paced Woodland with 21 points. Jayden Metcalf scored 14 and Zyon Heath added 12 points for the Wildcats.


Woodland (7-17, 1-9) and Cass (7-14, 3-7) will both open the Region 7-5A tournament at Cartersville High School on Monday.




HIRAM 64, CARTERSVILLE BOYS 49


The host Hornets broke open a tight game in the third quarter Friday night and held off the Canes down the stretch for a 64-49 Region 7-5A victory.


The game was tied after the opening eight minutes, 12-12, and Hiram led 29-26 at halftime.


In the third quarter, the Hornets stretched their lead to 52-39 en route to their 15-point win.


Chase Tyler led Hiram with 32 points.


Ced McClinic scored 14 and Nas Bennett had 11 points for the Hurricanes.


Hiram improved to 16-8 on the season and 9-1 to win the Region 7-5A regular season title.


Cartersville (11-14, 7-3) will host the region tournament next week.




HIRAM 53, CARTERSVILLE GIRLS 49


The Lady Canes dropped a narrow 53-49 decision Friday night at Hiram in both teams’ final region game.


KK Arnold led Cartersville with 17 points and nine rebounds. Senai Camper followed with 13 points and seven boards. Ansley Griffin scored nine points for the Lady Canes.


Hiram improved to 11-14 on the season and 4-6 in region play.


The Lady Canes (14-11, 7-3) will host the Region 7-5A tournament that begins on Monday at the Storm Center.
