Cass teams complete weekend sweep at East Paulding

The Cass girls and boys basketball teams completed a weekend sweep with wins Saturday at East Paulding. Those victories followed wins Friday night at Paulding County.

 

CASS GIRLS 70, EAST PAULDING 49

The Lady Colonels didn’t pull away until the third quarter, but finished strong in a 21-point win Saturday at East Paulding. Cass led 16-14 after one quarter and was ahead by ten at the intermission, 37-27. The Lady Colonels then surged to take a 24-point lead by the end of the third quarter, up 61-37. Claire Davis and Londaisha Smith (photo by Randy Parker, The Daily Tribune News) paced Cass with 26 and 16 points, respectively. Keara McDaniel and Amaya Ford followed with eight apiece. Haley Johnson tossed in six. Ariana Hames and Mikaela Jackson added three points each. Kimberlyn Black scored 11 points for the host Lady Raiders and Wuami Afiba added 10.

The loss drops East Paulding to 4-15 overall and 3-8 in Region 7-AAAAA. Cass (14-6, 5-6) hosts Class AAAAA 7th-ranked Rome Tuesday night at 6 p.m. before traveling to Carrollton Friday night. CASS BOYS 70, EAST PAULDING 61 The Cass boys held on Saturday for a road, region win at East Paulding 70-61 in a game that was closely contested throughout. Cass led 13-8 after one period, 25-22 at halftime, and 41-38 through three quarters before holding on for a nine-point victory. “I’m proud of our guys for their toughness and energy today,” said Colonels head coach Sean Glaze. “With only 16 hours between games that’s not always easy to do.” Zaylan Chaney led Cass with 18 points. Jordan Ford and Braxton Benham followed with 17 and 15, respectively. Andrew Glaze contributed six points. C.J. Pipkin tossed in five. Alfred Washington scored four and Jaquan Heard three for the Colonels. Sebastian Tidor posted 17 points for the host Raiders (7-13, 3-9). Sean Rutledge followed with 12. Cass (13-8, 8-4 Region 7-AAAAA) will host Rome Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. and it will be Teacher Appreciation Night.
