Chargers bats ignite in doubleheader sweep


Georgia Highlands cruised to a pair of easy wins Wednesday, defeating Point University JV 20-0 and 10-0 in a doubleheader at LakePoint in Emerson.


Conner Perry (3 IP, 0R, 1H, 3K) picked up the pitching victory in the opener for the Chargers. Dalton Bradford (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 3K) and Griffin Brown (1 IP, 0R 0H, 1BB) worked one inning apiece.


Chase Townsend (4 IP, 0R, 3H, 4K) earned the GHC pitching win in the second game. Jacob Ryan (2 IP, 0R, 1H, 4K) closed out the final two frames. Fifteen different Chargers had at least one hit in the doubleheader. Palmer Sapp (triple, RBI) and Mickey Maguire (4 RBI) led the way with four hits each. David Smith had three hits including a Game 2 home run, a triple, and seven RBI. Max Kops also contributed a three-hit day with one RBI. Joe Sutton (triple, 3 RBI), Omar Daniels (double, 3 RBI), and Brandon Price completed the day with two hits each. Lavoisier Fisher had a two-run home run in the opening game. Levi Ayers (double, 3 RBI), Jett Kern (double, 2 RBI), Bam Thomas (triple), Dalton Bradford (double), Gavin Harmon (RBI), Johnny Dow, and Alex Skepton added one hit apiece. The Chargers also stole 16 bases in the doubleheader.


Georgia Highlands (16-4) will host a three-game series with Sinclair CC Saturday and Sunday at LakePoint. Saturday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 1 p.m. Sunday’s single game will begin at 12 noon.
