Chargers bats power past Cleveland State

Caden Smith was one of six Chargers batters with two hits in Tuesday's win over Cleveland State.

Georgia Highlands hit three home runs and rattled off a dozen hits Tuesday afternoon to rout visiting Cleveland State CC 14-4 at LakePoint.

After starting the 2022 season with 16 straight wins, Georgia Highlands has now reeled off eight straight wins after a brief two-game skid in late February.

David Smith, Ben Olson, and Parker Poteet each hit home runs for the Chargers Tuesday and all three finished with two hits. Ethan Anderson, Caden Smith, and Austin Tienda also had two hits each for GHC. Those six hitters also combined for 10 RBIs.

Zachary Murray (3 IP, 2ER, 2H, 3K) picked up the Chargers’ pitching win in relief of starter Jacob Ryan (4 IP, 2ER, 7H, 5K). Ryan Suppa (1 IP, 1K) closed out the final frame.

The loss leaves Cleveland State with a 15-8 season mark.

Georgia Highlands (24-2) is scheduled to host a doubleheader Wednesday at 1 p.m. with Brewton Parker College.
