Chargers beat Statesmen, 7-4

The Georgia Highlands Chargers improved to 9-2 Thursday afternoon with a 7-4 win over visiting Lincoln Trail CC (IL) at LakePoint in Emerson. GHC broke a 3-3 tie in the bottom of the fourth inning with a pair of runs, then added two more in the seventh to take a 7-3 lead. The Statesmen added a run in the eighth, but would get no closer. Chargers’ starting pitcher Ethan Underwood (6 IP, 3ER, 8H, 3K) picked up the victory on the mound. Stevie Szucs (1 IP, 1ER, 2H, 1K) worked the seventh inning and Jet Kern (2 IP, 1H, 3K) closed out the final two frames for Georgia Highlands.


Mickey Maguire and Trace Twardoski had two hits each for the Chargers. Twardoski’s hits included a double and one RBI. David Smith hit a solo home run. Lavoisier Fisher tripled with one RBI. Joe Sutton doubled with one RBI and Palmer Sapp had the other GHC base hit. Omar Daniels had a sac fly and finished with a pair of RBIs. He also swiped a pair of bases. The Chargers (9-2) will host a doubleheader Friday with the Statesmen to close out the three game series. First pitch is scheduled for 12 noon.
