Chargers clinch top seed in GCAA tournament

Georgia Highlands baseball blanked Gordon State College 5-0 on Saturday in Cartersville to lock up the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association tournament hosted by the Chargers May 6-9.


A trio of GHC pitchers combined to shut out the visiting Highlanders. 


Roswell High product, Trip Dovale earned the pitching win Saturday.

Trip Dovale (10-1) started on the mound and collected his tenth win by working seven scoreless innings. He scattered four hits and one walk while fanning nine. Andrew Arnold allowed one hit but struck out two in a scoreless eighth inning and Chandler Anderson struck out one in the ninth.


Ryan Wideman had three of the Chargers' eleven hits. Barrett Eldridge (double, RBI), Ryan Martin (solo home run), and Grayson Godbee followed with two hits. Luke Orfi (double, two RBIs) and Ali Banks (double) had the other GHC hits.


Gordon State (29-20, 15-8) will be the No. 2 seed in the upcoming conference tournament. The Highlanders have regular season road games on Tuesday and Thursday at Andrew College and ABAC.


The NJCAA 4th-ranked Chargers have regular season games on Tuesday at South Georgia and Thursday at home against Andrew College.
