The Georgia Highlands College men’s basketball team suffered a heartbreaking one-point loss on Wednesday night at South Georgia Tech in Americus. The loss diminishes the Chargers’ hopes of hosting a first-round tournament game in the upcoming Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association playoffs.

The Chargers trailed 42-35 at halftime on Wednesday and rallied in the second half, only to come up short, 80-79.

Jalexs Ewing led the Jets in scoring with 25 points. Hendrens Bartelus finished with a double-double — 14 points and 10 rebounds.

South Georgia Tech moved into a three-way tie for third in the conference standings at 9-6. The Jets are 12-17 overall with one regular season game remaining at home against Gordon College on Saturday.

The Chargers slipped to 8-7 in conference play and are tied for sixth with Central Georgia Tech. GHC (16-11) wraps up regular season play on Saturday at home against Southern Crescent Tech in a 3 p.m. tip.
