Chargers eliminated at conference tourney

Georgia Highlands lost its opening game of the GCAA tournament Monday at LakePoint, falling to Andrew College 6-3.
The first round of the tournament was single-elimination, thus ending the Chargers' season.
The Tigers and Chargers traded the lead early and were tied 2-2 through the opening five innings. Andrew took the lead with a solo home run in the top of the sixth and added on three more runs in the eighth for a 6-2 cushion. GHC’s Mitchell Walker hit a solo shot to lead off the bottom of the ninth but the Chargers got no closer.
Trey Baker (6 IP, 3ER, 7H, 3BB, 6K) made the start on the hill for Georgia Highlands and was saddled with the pitching loss. Trip DoVale (1.2 IP, 3ER, 3H, 2BB) and Skyler Thellman (1.1 IP, 0R, 2H, 0BB, 2K) pitched in relief.
Dekel Williams (two doubles, four RBIs) and Maddox Mueller (solo HR) led the Andrew offense with three hits each.
Hudson Sapp, Austin Slate (RBI), and Walker (solo HR) had two hits each for the Chargers. Adam Love, Ryan Wideman, Jay Murdock, Connor Faulkner (RBI), and Parker Poteet added one hit apiece.
The Tigers (29-21) advance to the second round Tuesday to play No. 2-seed Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.
Georgia Highlands completes the season with a 33-21 mark.
The GCAA tournament continues at LakePoint through Thursday.
