Chargers even series with Bobcats

Georgia Highlands outhit visiting East Georgia State thirteen to six Friday evening and defeated the Bobcats 7-4 to even their current series at one game each.
East Georgia won the series opener in Swainsboro on Wednesday, 2-1.
The Bobcats opened the scoring with a run in the top of the first inning. The Chargers matched that run in the second.
After two scoreless frames, Georgia Highlands took a 4-1 lead in the fifth on a three-run home run by Hunter Sapp.
From there the Chargers added single runs in the next three innings to build a 7-1 advantage.
East Georgia hit a two-out, three-run home run in the top of the ninth making the score 7-4 but reliever Davis Mortland got a strikeout to end the game.
Oliver Wood (8 IP, 3ER, 5H, 1BB, 2K) made the pitching start for the Chargers and collected the win. The Walton High School product left in the ninth inning after a walk and a single. Mortland struck out the side after entering in the ninth but did allow the Bobcats’ home run.
Georgia Highlands (23-11, 3-3 GCAA) and East Georgia (17-15, 3-3) complete their four-game series Saturday with a doubleheader at LakePoint starting at 1 p.m.
