Chargers lose series opener with South Georgia State

Georgia Highlands baseball lost the first game of a four-game series with South Georgia State on Tuesday, 9-6, at Bentley Field on the Cartersville campus.
The visiting Hawks scored four runs in the first two innings and led 7-1 through five. The Chargers narrowed the margin to 7-3 in the sixth, but South Georgia State added two insurance runs in the top of the eighth for a 9-3 advantage. Andrew Bishop hit a three-run homer for GHC in the bottom of the eighth, but that would end the scoring.
The Chargers utilized nine pitchers in the loss, including starter Nickolaus Kane (3 IP, 4ER, 6H, 2BB, 1K), Brodie Chestnutt (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB), Garrett Goblish (1 IP, 3ER, 1H, 4BB, 1K), William Homan (0.2 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB), Ethan Fuller (0.1 IP, 1K), Braxton Wade (1 IP, 2ER, 2H), Jackson Greer (1 IP, 0R, 1H), Reece Robertson (0.0 IP, 1H), and Hunter Ward (1 IP, 0R, 0H).
South Georgia (19-18, 5-6) out-hit Georgia Highlands eleven to three.
In addition to Bishop’s late homer, Ryan Martin hit a solo home run in the first inning, and Ian Fullerton doubled in the eighth.
Georgia Highlands (29-7, 8-4) will play the remainder of the series in Douglas with a single game on Friday and a doubleheader on Saturday.
