Chargers move a step closer to claiming the top seed for the GCAA conference tournament

A big seven-run fourth inning broke open a 1-1 game and lifted Georgia Highlands baseball to an 11-5 road win on Tuesday at Abraham Baldwin.


Five singles, two walks, a hit batsman, and a solo home run produced the Chargers’ runs in the breakout frame. GHC outhit the Stallions sixteen to four in the victory.


Six pitchers toed the rubber for the Chargers. Kyle Stephenson (3 IP, 2R, 0ER, 0H, 4BB), Brodie Chestnutt (1 IP), Logan Spivey (1 IP, 1ER, 1H, 1BB, 1K), Oliver Wood (2 IP, 0R, 1H), Andrew Arnold (1 IP, 1ER, 0H, 1BB, 2K), and Reece Robertson (1 IP, 1ER, 2H) all pitched.


Barrett Eldridge led Georgia Highlands with four hits including a solo home run and four RBIs. Clay Wiesen (double, RBI) and Gray Wilson followed with three hits. Grayson Godbee finished with two hits including a double. Ryan Wideman (double, two RBIs), Will Cawthon (RBI), Ryan Martin (RBI), and CJ Blackwell (RBI) added one hit.


ABAC slipped to 17-26 overall and 9-12 in GCAA play.


The Chargers (44-7, 16-5) lead Gordon College by 2-½ games in the conference standings with three games remaining. They will host East Georgia on Thursday and the Gordon College Highlanders on Saturday. Both games are scheduled for 2 p.m. starts.
