Chargers move into first-place tie with a Saturday doubleheader sweep of Gordon College

The Georgia Highlands Chargers won both games of a conference doubleheader Saturday afternoon at Gordon State College, 9-4 and 17-7.
By sweeping on Saturday, GHC takes three of four games during the week against the Highlanders and moves into a first-place tie in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association standings.
Trip Dovale (7 IP, 4ER, 9H, 2BB, 9K) tossed a complete game to earn the pitching victory in Game 1 on Saturday. Four pitchers — Chandler Anderson (4 IP, 1ER, 2H, 4BB, 8K), Andrew Arnold (1 IP, 2ER, 2H, 2K), Kyle Stephenson (1 IP, 4R, 0ER, 2H, 2BB), and Reece Robertson (1 IP) combined to hold off Gordon State in Game 2.
In the opening game, Georgia Highlands led 5-0 through two innings and 9-0 before the Highlanders got on the scoreboard. In Game 2, the Chargers scored five runs in the top of the first inning and led 9-1 through four frames en route to a 10-run win.
The Chargers totaled 29 hits in the doubleheader with Luke Orfi producing a team-high five hits including a home run and two RBIs.
Will Cawthon (double, three RBIs) and Davis Newman (double, three RBIs) finished the day with four hits. Grayson Godbee (HR, three RBIs), Ryan Wideman (HR, two doubles, four RBIs), and Ryan Martin (HR, triple, double) produced three hits. Barrett Eldridge (double, three RBIs), Gray Wilson (RBI), and Clay Wiesen (triple, two RBIs) had two hits. CJ Blackwell added the other GHC safety.
Gordon slips to 22-16 overall and 8-4 in conference play.
Georgia Highlands (36-6, 8-4 GCAA) plays a four-game conference series with South Georgia State that begins on the road on Tuesday with the final three games in Cartersville on Friday and Saturday.
