Georgia Highlands College baseball opened its 2025 season Friday with an eight-inning 7-6 home win over Cleveland State CC.

The Chargers led 3-0 through four innings, but the visiting Cougars tied the game with a run in the fifth inning and two more in the top of the seventh.

Cleveland State scored three runs in the top of the eighth to move ahead 6-3, but Georgia Highlands scored a win by posting four runs in the bottom of the frame.

Ali Banks' two-run single provided the walk-off victory.

GHC pitcher Braxton Wade collected the Chargers’ win on the mound by retiring the final two outs in the top of the eighth inning. Georgia Highlands utilized six pitchers in the win. Andrew Arnold made a four-inning start. He did not allow a run or a hit and struck out two.

Right fielder Ryan Martin was 3-for-3 with a home run, a walk, and three RBI to pace the Chargers’ offense. Banks followed with two hits and two RBI from his leadoff spot. Tyler Phillips (double, two RBI), Anthony Miller, Grayson Godbee, Kenskey Thomas, and Heath Whitlock added one hit.

Georgia Highlands (1-0) continues their series with the Cougars at Cleveland State on Sunday with a doubleheader.
