Chargers softball goes 2-2 at Sand Mountain Invitational

Georgia Highlands College softball finished up their four game trip to the Sand Mountain Invitational Saturday by splitting games against Southern Union State and Chattanooga State.
The Chargers defeated Southern Union 4-2 but lost to Chattanooga State 7-6.
GHC also split games Friday defeating Snead State but falling to Pearl River.
In Saturday’s win over Southern Union, three Chargers’ pitchers — Haley Robinson, Katie Traynor, and Maggie Schandera — combined to limit the Bison to just six hits.
GHC led 3-1 through five innings and matched sixth inning singles runs for the 4-2 win.
Hailey Cronic had three hits in the win including a triple and two RBIs. Robinson and Audrey Johnson followed with two hits and one RBI each. Taylor Justice tripled. Malone Aldridge and Haley Overton added one hit apiece.
The Chargers rapped out 13 hits in the loss to Chattanooga State.
Cronic compiled three hits including a double. Bradey Tharp (double), Robinson, and Allison Deweese (double) contributed two hits and one RBI each. Kyndal Brown (2 RBIs), Aldridge (RBI), Madison Dennis, and Ansley Todd added one hit apiece.
Gracee Ellis pitched six innings in the one-run loss. She allowed five earned runs on eight hits with no walks and recorded one strikeout. Schandera (0.1 IP, 1ER, 3H) retired the final out.
Georgia Highlands (6-12) will rematch with Chattanooga State Tuesday at home in a 3 p.m. doubleheader at Stars Field in Cassville.
