Chargers softball sweeps conference DH at ABAC

The Georgia Highlands softball team swept a conference doubleheader Monday at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College, winning 5-4 and 13-5.


Jaycie Hand recorded the final four outs in the circle in the opening game to pick up the pitching win. She allowed just one hit, facing five batters to close out the sixth and seventh innings. Grace Kendrick pitched the first 5-⅔ innings allowing four earned runs on four hits and two walks. She struck out six.


In the second game, the Chargers’ offense rattled off fourteen hits. GHC scored five runs in the top of the first and seven more in the top of the fourth inning to take control.


Hayden Joyner (2.1 IP, 3R, 1ER, 2H, 3BB) was credited with the pitching win. Hand (2.2 IP, 2ER, 6H, 0BB) entered in the third inning and closed out the game in the circle.


Aliza Martinez (three RBIs) and Cailey Barnett (triple, two RBIs) had three hits in the two games.  Avrey Fisher (double, three RBIs), Ansley Farmer (three RBIs), Kendrick (three RBIs), Haylee Dishmon (RBI), and Ally Graden (two RBIs) contributed two hits. Chloe Fowler (RBI) added one hit.


Georgia Highlands (9-20, 6-4 GCAA) hosts Chattanooga State CC on Tuesday and returns to conference play on Thursday at Gordon State College.
