Chargers softball sweeps home doubleheader with Gordon College

Georgia Highlands College softball won both games of a home conference doubleheader with Gordon State College on Saturday, winning 6-0 and 2-1.
Emily Ferro started in the pitching circle and scattered five hits and two walks in the opening game to shut out the visiting Highlanders. Ferro fanned five. Haley Curtis then went the distance in a nine-inning thriller, allowing one earned run on six hits and four walks. She struck out three.
In the first game, the Chargers struck for three runs in the first inning and added single runs in the third, fourth, and sixth innings. In Game 2, Gordon College posted a first-inning run, but the Chargers knotted the score in the fifth and pulled out the victory in the bottom of the ninth on an RBI double by Ferro.
Anslee Logan (double, RBI) and Ferro (double, sac fly, three RBI) led the GHC offense in the doubleheader with four hits. CeCe Williams followed with three hits and one RBI. Emma Darrow (triple, RBI) and Maci Andrews (double) had two hits on the day, while Athens Hudson (double), Emmalee Freeman (double), and Ahmani Green each added one hit.
The losses dropped the Highlanders to 25-14 overall and 10-3 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association.
Georgia Highlands (17-12, 7-4) plays at Gordon College on Tuesday at 4 p.m. and will visit the Highlanders for another doubleheader on Saturday.
