Chargers split conference doubleheader with Highlanders

Georgia Highlands College baseball split a conference doubleheader Tuesday with the Gordon State Highlanders at Commander Robert "Bob" Bentley Baseball Field on the GHC campus.
In the opener, Gordon State scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning for a come-from-behind 7-5 win. The Chargers bounced back in the second game for a 15-8 win after scoring 14 runs in the first three innings.
Matthew Perkins picked up the pitching win for GHC in the second game. He went five innings and allowed five runs (four earned) on eight hits and two walks while fanning four. Sam Clower (0.1 IP, 1ER, 2H) and Heath Whitlock (1.2 IP, 2R, 0ER, 2H, 1BB, 2K) pitched in relief for the Chargers.
Jack Burns (0.2 IP, 3ER, 4H) was charged with the pitching loss in Game 1. David McKechnie (5.1 IP, 4R, 2ER, 7H, 1BB, 6K) made the start for Georgia Highlands and worked into the sixth inning. Wyatt Gatlin (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1BB) pitched a scoreless seventh inning.
Aidan Larkin led the Chargers’ hitting attack in the doubleheader with four hits, including one home run, two doubles, one sacrifice fly, and two RBI. Carson Page had a three-hit day with a homer, a triple, and three RBI. Hayden Miller also had three hits, including a double and two RBI.
Andrew Bishop homered twice for GHC and added a sacrifice fly to total six RBI on the day. Caden Marcos also homered twice and had three RBI. Mason Moore (solo home run), Harper Davenport (RBI), Emiliano Dominguez, Alex Karst, Oakley Willingham, and Gatlin each added one hit.
The doubleheader split left the Highlanders with a 20-11 record overall and 4-1 in the Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association.
Georgia Highlands (24-8, 4-1) welcomes East Georgia College for a conference doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
