Chargers split doubleheader and series with East Georgia

Georgia Highlands College baseball split a doubleheader against East Georgia State on Saturday, resulting in a four-game series split with the Bobcats for the week.


The Chargers won 8-7 in Cartersville last Tuesday and 5-2 in the first game of a doubleheader this past Saturday. East Georgia won 11-4 on Friday and 3-2 on Sunday in Swainsboro.


Matthew Perkins (5 IP, 1ER, 3H, 2BB, 4K) started on the mound for the Chargers in their win on Saturday and was credited with the win. Braxton Wade (1.2 IP, 1ER, 3H, 3K) and Jack Burns (0.1 IP, 1K) pitched in relief.


Single runs in three of the first four innings and two runs in the sixth gave the Chargers a 5-1 lead. East Georgia scored a run in the bottom of the seventh, but got no closer.


Kenton Collier, Aidan Larkin (double), Mason Moore (double, RBI), Emiliano Dominguez, Caden Marcos, and Harper Davenport had hits for GHC. Carson Page added an RBI with a sacrifice fly.


In Saturday’s final game of the series, the Bobcats led 2-0 through three innings with a run in the second and a solo home run in the third. The Chargers tied the score in the sixth with two runs, but East Georgia collected a walk-off win in the bottom of the eighth on a walk and two singles.


Six Chargers had one hit each, including Moore (double, RBI), Marcos (RBI), Page, Larkin, Collier, and Andrew Bishop.


East Georgia finished the series with an 18-26 record overall. The Bobcats are 9-13 in conference play. 


Fifteenth-ranked Georgia Highlands (39-11, 19-4) has clinched the GCAA regular-season title with five games remaining. The Chargers visit Andrew College on Tuesday and play at East Georgia on Thursday.
