Chargers stay unbeaten in conference play

Georgia Highlands College baseball won a high-scoring conference game over East Georgia College Tuesday afternoon in Rome, 14-10.


The two teams combined for 29 hits and smacked a combined five home runs.


East Georgia held leads of 3-2 through three innings and 8-4 through five. Georgia Highlands responded with a six-run sixth inning and added four more runs over the next two frames to secure the win.


Caleb Garner (2.1 IP, 0R, 3H, 1BB, 1K) picked up the pitching win for the Chargers in relief of starter Jacob Ryan (4.2 IP, 8ER, 9H, 0BB, 5K). Zachary Murray (0.2 IP, 2ER, 2H, 2BB, 1K), Ryan Suppa (0.1 IP), and Chandler Wood (1 IP, 0R, 2H) also pitched in relief.

David Smith led the GHC offense with three hits and three RBIs. Ethan Anderson also had three hits including a home run and two RBIs. Zayd Brannigan had two hits with one RBI. Conner Todaro homered, walked three times, and drove in three runs. Ben Olson contributed a double and finished with three RBIs. Max Kops (double, RBI), Parker Poteet (double), and Mick Moody added one base hit each.


The loss dropped East Georgia to 20-14 overall and 1-4 in GCAA conference play.


Georgia Highlands (29-2, 5-0) will travel to Swainsboro to complete the four-game series this week with a single game Friday and a doubleheader Saturday at East Georgia.
