Chargers suffer doubleheader sweep


Georgia Highlands College baseball dropped a pair of games Thursday to Wallace State-Dothan at LakePoint in Emerson. The visiting Governors took the first game 10-8 and won the nightcap, 8-3.

The Chargers led 6-4 through four innings, but a four-run fifth by Wallace State-Dothan built regained the lead at 8-6.

Georgia Highlands tied the game with a two-run homerun by J Sutton in the sixth, but the Governors scored twice in the seventh and blanked the Chargers in the final frame for a two-run win.

Ryan Suppa (1.2 IP, 2ER, 3H, 2BB, 1K) was tagged with the pitching loss in the opener in relief of starter Johnny Dow (4.1 IP, 6ER, 8H, 1BB, 2K).

Connor Todaro (3 RBIs), Trenton Parker (double, RBI), Palmer Sapp, and Brandon Prince had two hits each for the Chargers.

In the second game, Wallace State-Dothan took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on a two-run homer, and led 5-1 through five innings on their way to an 8-3 win.

Georgia Highlands managed only three hits in the nightcap loss.

Chase Townsend (4.2 IP, 5R, 4ER, 9H, 2BB, 4K) suffered the pitching loss. Matthew Silka (2.1 IP, 3R, 2ER, 4H, 1BB, 3K) also pitched for the Chargers.

Todaro doubled twice at the plate. Trace Twardoski doubled for the other GHC base hit.

The Chargers (13-3) return to the diamond at LakePoint Tuesday for a doubleheader with Scoutz USA Post Grad starting at 1 p.m.
