The Georgia Highlands College softball team delivered a commanding performance on Sunday afternoon at Carol Brown Field, sweeping a doubleheader against Walters State Community College with a pair of decisive victories.

In the opener, the Chargers erupted for a 10-0 run-rule win in five innings behind a masterful outing from Emily Ferro in the circle. Ferro tossed a complete-game one-hitter, while striking out four to earn the shutout victory.

The Chargers' offense wasted little time, plating four runs in the bottom of the first inning and then exploding for six more in the third to secure the mercy-rule triumph. GHC finished with eight hits in the shortened contest.

Haley Curtis took the ball in the second game and went the distance in an 8-3 victory, scattering 10 hits and four walks while allowing three earned runs. Curtis struck out two in the complete-game effort.

Georgia Highlands broke open a tight 2-2 contest in the second game with a four-run outburst in the fifth inning, followed by two more insurance runs in the sixth to pull away for good.

Emma Darrow paced the Chargers' attack across both games, collecting four hits, including two triples, one double, and driving in three runs. Emily Ferro added three doubles and three RBI of her own at the plate to complement her strong pitching performance in Game 1. Anslee Logan (two RBI), CeCe Williams, and Mary Catherine Kimball (one RBI) each finished with two hits on the day. Additional contributions came from Ahmani Green (triple, two RBI), Emmalee Freeman (two RBI), Lily Branch, and Tatum Richardson, each with one hit, while Alivia Fannin chipped in one RBI.

The sweep drops Walters State to 14-16 on the season.

Georgia Highlands improves to 13-9 overall and 3-1 in Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association play. The Chargers hit the road next, traveling to face Georgia Military College on Tuesday before a doubleheader at Andrew College on Saturday.
