Georgia Highlands College baseball opened a four-game, home-and-home, conference series with the Gordon State Highlanders on Tuesday at Cdr. Robert Bentley Baseball Field in Cartersville with a 9-4 win.


The Chargers took a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second inning and never trailed from that point forward, outhitting Gordon State thirteen to five. GHC led 5-3 through five innings and took command with a four-run sixth.


David McKechnie (5 IP, 3ER, 5H, 2BB, 8K) made the pitching start for the Chargers and collected the win on the mound. Marshall Flowers (1 IP, 1BB), Alex Karst (1 IP, 1R, 0ER, 2BB, 1K), and Braxton Wade (2 IP, 0R, 0H, 3K) pitched in relief.


Hayden Miller led the Chargers’ offense with three hits, including one double and two RBI. Aidan Larkin (double, RBI), Emiliano Dominguez (RBI), Carson Page (RBI), and Caden Marcos each contributed two hits. Mason Moore (double, two RBI) and Andrew Bishop added one hit.


Tuesday’s loss leaves the Highlands at 26-17 on the season and 8-7 in conference play.


Georgia Highlands (34-9, 14-2 GCAA) plays the next three games in Barnesville — a single game on Thursday at 2 p.m. and a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
