Chargers win Saturday doubleheader to split series with East Georgia

Grayson Godbee had three hits in Saturday's doubleheader at East Georgia College including a home run and two RBIs.

After losing the first two games in their home-and-home conference series with East Georgia College, the Georgia Highlands Chargers won both games of a doubleheader Saturday afternoon to earn a series split.


Georgia Highlands won 16-6 and 10-7.


Trip Dovale picked up the pitching win in the opening game. H allowed six runs (five earned) on seven hits and one walk while striking out six. Brodie Chestnutt worked a three-up, three-down seventh inning to close out the game.


In the second game, four Chargers toed the rubber. Chandler Anderson (5 IP, 5ER, 9H, 0BB, 5K) made the start. Reece Robertson (0.2 IP, 2ER, 0H, 3BB), Hunter Ward (0.1 IP, 3BF), and Andrew Arnold (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 1K) pitched in relief.


Luke Orfi paced the Charger offense with six hits in the doubleheader including a homer, one double, and four RBIs. Grayson Godbee (HR, two RBIs), Ryan Wideman (HR, three RBIs), Will Cawthon (three RBIs), Barrett Eldridge (HR, five RBIs), and Gray Wilson (double, two RBIs) produced three hits. Ali Banks (double, RBI) produced two hits. Ryan Martin (HR, three RBIs) and Davis Newman (sac fly, RBI) added one hit for the day.


East Georgia slipped to 24-14 overall and 2-6 in conference play with the two losses.


Georgia Highlands (33-5, 5-3 GCAA) has four conference games next week with conference-leading Gordon State College. The Chargers host on Tuesday at 2 p.m. and will play a single game in Barnesville on Thursday and a doubleheader at the Highlanders home field on Saturday.
