Cartersville golfer R.B. Clyburn was the low amateur June 2-3 at the 91st Georgia Section PGA Yamaha Atlanta Open, contested at Cherokee Town and Country Club-North in Sandy Springs.
Professional Jacob Tilton of Ansley Golf Club shot 65-67 (12-under par) to win the tournament championship by six shots over Francisco Bide (Capital City Club). Clyburn (69-70, 5-under par) tied for third overall with professionals Chad Thomas (West Pines Golf Club) and Austin Morrison (Sea Island Golf Club). Amateur runner-up Pierce Adamson (4-under par) tied three professionals — Matt Elliott (Achasta Golf Club), Todd Ormsby (Highland Country Club), and Peter Jones (Cherokee Town and Country Club).
Clyburn struggled at the beginning of the tournament on Monday, starting five-over par through the first three holes. However, he rallied back into contention with nine birdies in the round and played his final 33 holes 10-under par.
The next Georgia Section PGA event open to amateurs is the West Pines Classic in Douglasville on July 7-8. Clyburn is the defending champion.
