Colonels collect region win, Wildcats edged at Dalton

The Cass Colonels picked up their first region win of the season on Tuesday, while Woodland dropped a two-run decision at Dalton.



CASS 10, CEDARTOWN 3


The Cass Colonels broke into the win column in Region 7-AAAA play Tuesday night with a convincing 10-3 win at Cedartown. 


The Colonels trailed 2-0 through three innings, but posted three runs in the fourth to take the lead and added four in the fifth and three more in the sixth inning.


Landon Lamb (3.2 IP 2R, 1ER, 3H, 1BB) started on the mound and picked up the Colonels’ pitching win. Andrew Ray (2.1 IP, 1R, 0ER, 0H, 3BB, 1K) worked in middle relief and Easton Lee (1 IP, 0R, 1H) closed out the seventh inning. 


Freshman Noah Rogers led the Cass bats with three hits, including one double and one RBI. Maddox Koontz followed with two hits and two RBI. Aidan Castaneda (two RBI), Zach Stiles, Cooper Rampley, and Ray (RBI) added one hit.


Cass (4-12, 1-6) welcomes Cedartown (6-5, 4-2) for a doubleheader on Friday, starting at 5 p.m.



DALTON 4, WOODLAND 2


Woodland scored two runs in the top of the first Tuesday night at Dalton, but the host Catamounts responded with four unanswered runs the rest of the way for a 4-2 Region 7-AAAA win.


Dalton pitcher Drew Brown tossed a seven-inning complete-game to halt the Wildcats with a one-hitter. He walked six and struck out seven. The two early runs by Woodland were unearned.


Clayton Wilkes (5 IP, 4R, 2ER, 5H, 4BB, 5K) was tagged with the pitching loss for Woodland. Brylon Reynolds struck out one in a scoreless sixth inning.


Jonathan Ryan had the Wildcats’ only hit in the loss. 


Woodland (8-7, 3-4) will host the Catamounts (11-3, 7-0) for a doubleheader on Friday. First pitch is scheduled for 5 p.m.
