Colonels, Eagles suffer losses

Rockmart built a 6-0 lead through the first four innings Monday night and held on to beat visiting Cass, 6-2.
The Yellow Jackets (8-5) scored three runs in the first, two in the third, and one more in the fourth inning. The two Cass runs crossed in the top of the sixth.
Hunter Lovett (3 IP, 5R, 3ER, 5H, 0BB, 6K) made the pitching start for the Colonels and was charged with the loss. Jacob Johnson (1 IP, 1ER, 2H), Justin Peace (1 IP, 0R, 2H, 1BB), Devan Hutchinson (0.2 IP, 3BB), and Chase Tatum (0.1 IP) also pitched. Three Rockmart pitchers -- Trey Luke, Gage Campbell, and Rob Yagyu -- combined for 10 strikeouts and limited the Colonels to only three hits.
Nic Wright (two RBIs) and Lovett had one double. Tatum had the only other Cass hit.
Cass (6-5) hosts Lafayette on Thursday at 5:55 p.m.
HOLY GROUND BAPTIST 9, EXCEL CHRISTIAN 3
Excel Christian Academy baseball lost 9-3 on Monday to visiting Holy Ground Baptist Academy from Carroll County.
The Eagles led 2-0 after one inning but the Stallions took control over the next two innings by scoring six runs — three in the second and three in the third.
Excel narrowed the deficit to 6-3 in the fourth inning but Holy Ground responded with three more runs in the sixth inning to close out the scoring.
Kohl Williams (3.2 IP, 3ER, 13H, 0BB, 2K) was charged with the pitching loss for ECA in relief of starter Jayden Winston (2.1 IP, 6R, 0ER, 3H, 5BB, 2K). Jacob Jinks (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 1BB) pitched the seventh inning for the Eagles,
G Dyson had two hits including one double and one RBI for Excel. Jinks finished with one hit and one RBI. Williams, McKaden Gentry, and Kamarion Profit added one hit for the Eagles.
Holy Ground improved to 2-0.
Excel Christian (2-1) plays at Hearts Academy (Powder Springs) on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
