Cass baseball won both games of a home doubleheader Wednesday night at the Cass Athletic Complex, winning 7-2 and 10-1 over the Rome Wolves.

Four Cass pitchers — Hunter Lovett, Trenton Elario, Joshua Churchwell, and Nic Wright — combined for ten strikeouts in the opening game. Lovett made the pitching start and collected the win by working 4-⅔ innings with no earned runs on one hit with no walks.

In the second game, three additional Cass arms limited the Wolves to only one, unearned run on three hits and two walks. Jacob Johnson made the pitching start and fanned eight in four innings. He allowed just two hits. Dustin Wallin worked two shutout innings with three strikeouts, and Jay Sheldon pitched a scoreless seventh inning for the Colonels in Game 2.

Elario (double, two RBI), Wright (triple), and Zach Stiles (double, two RBI) had three hits for Cass in the two games. Lovett had two hits, including a two-run homer in the first game. Wallin (double, two RBI) and Johnson (two RBI) also had two hits. Chase Tatum (double, two RBI) and Churchwell (RBI) added one hit for the Colonels.

The two losses dropped Rome to 2-5 on the season.

Cass (5-3) opens Region 7-AAAA play on Tuesday at home in the first game of a three-game series with Dalton.
