Colonels shutout at Calhoun

Calhoun hit a grand slam and scored six runs in the bottom of the second inning Tuesday night to build a big early lead, then leaned on the strong pitching of starter Jax Bishop and reliever Avery Shiflett to shut out Cass, 8-0.

Bishop (5 IP, 0R, 2H, 4BB, 7K) and Shiflett (2 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 4K) combined for 11 strikeouts.

Jesiel Moctezuma had the only two Cass base hits.

Andrew Purdy (two home runs, one double), Spencer Evans (double), and Ripken West combined for six of the Yellow Jackets’ eight hits and seven RBIs.

Calhoun (7-11, 4-3) visits Cass (10-7, 5-2) Thursday at 5:55 p.m. and the three-game series concludes Friday at Calhoun.
