Colonels top Tigers as county rivals open 2020 campaigns


After a week of avoiding poor field conditions, Cass and Adairsville got their 2020 baseball schedules underway with Cass taking a 7-2 non-region win at the Cass Athletic Complex. Cass struck first with a pair of runs in the first inning and went ahead 3-1 in the second. The Tigers narrowed the margin to 3-2 in the fourth, but the Colonels added two runs in both the fifth and sixth frames to pull away. The Colonels used a trio of pitchers with Jordan Gani (4 IP, 2ER, 2H, 3BB, 5K) collecting the win on the mound. Jayden Smith (1 IP, 0R, 0H, 0BB, 2K) and Matt Shook (2 IP, 0R, 0H, 3BB, 4K) pitched in relief for Cass.

Jordan Gani picked up the pitching win and led the Cass offense Friday with two hits including a triple and four RBIs as Cass topped Adairsville, 7-2.

Gani led the Cass offense as well with a pair of hits that included a triple and four RBIs. Logan Nelson added two hits and also drove in a run. Blaine Ingram and Thomas Botts added the other Cass base hits. Logan Hunt, Tyler Driggers, and Wade Dooley had one hit each for Adairsville. Eli Agnew drove in a run.

Eli Padgett (2 IP, 3ER, 5H, 3BB, 2K) took the pitching loss for Adairsville. Agnew (3 IP, 2R, 0ER, 0H, 4BB, 5K) and Brendon Carroll (1 IP, 2R, 1ER, 1H, 1BB, 1K) also took the mound for Adairsville.

The Tigers (0-1) are scheduled for a home doubleheader Saturday at 12 noon against Temple. Cass (1-0) has a doubleheader Saturday at home with Northwest Whitfield. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
