Colonels win at Athens Academy, 3-1

Cass pitchers Jacob Johnson and Devan Hutchinson combined on a four-hitter Wednesday night as the Colonels won at Athens Academy, 3-1.


Johnson picked up the pitching win with a five-inning shutout start on the mound. He scattered three hits and three walks while striking out two. 


Hutchinson earned a two-inning save. He allowed one, unearned run on one hit and one walk with three strikeouts.


After three shutout frames, Cass scored two runs in the top of the fourth to take a 2-0 lead. They made it 3-0 in the top of the seventh and the Spartans scored their lone run in the bottom of the seventh inning.


Five Colonels had one hit each.


Connor Jenkins (double, RBI), Chase Tatum (double, RBI), Trenton Payne (RBI), Cayden Roberts (double), and Caleb Freeman contributed one hit.


The loss dropped Athens Academy to 10-8 on the season.


Cass (13-8, 4-2) plays a doubleheader at noon on Thursday at Oconee County.
