Colonels win at Coahulla Creek

The Cass Colonels scored in each of the first six innings Friday night to charge past host Coahulla Creek, 10-5.
Cass posted two runs in the top of the first, one in the second, and one more in the third inning to build an early 4-0 lead. The Colts rallied back, however, in the bottom of the third to knot the score at 4-4.
From there, the Colonels scored two runs in the fourth inning, three in the fifth, and one more in the sixth to go ahead 10-4 and take control. The Colts added their final run in the bottom of the sixth.
Jacob Johnson (3 IP, 1ER, 2H, 2BB, 3K) picked up the pitching victory for Cass in relief of starter Trenton Payne (3 IP, 4ER, 3H, 3BB). Chase Tatum struck out all three batters he faced in the bottom of the seventh.
Nic Wright had three hits and three RBIs for the Colonels’ offense. Jesiel Moctezuma finished with two hits including a double and one RBI. Tatum also had two hits.
Hunter Lovett hit a three-run home run in the fifth inning. Devan Hutchinson and Caleb Freeman produced one hit while Connor Jenkins drove in one run.
The loss dropped Coahulla Creek to 4-5 on the season.
Cass (7-5) hosts Lafayette on Thursday at 5:55 p.m.
