The Cass boys won the 2020 Campbell Holiday Classic Wednesday night by defeating the host Campbell Spartans, 85-60.

The Cass boys basketball team won the Campbell Holiday Classic Wednesday night by defeating the host Spartans in the championship game 85-60.

The Colonels reached the title game with wins Monday and Tuesday over Carver-Atlanta and Hiram.

Cass led 18-16 after one quarter as C.J. Pipkin scored seven points in the period. The Colonels extended their lead to 44-31 at halftime and 60-48 through three quarters. Junior Zaylan Chaney, who finished with a game-high 21 points and eight rebounds, scored 10 points for Cass in the second quarter.

Four other Colonels reached double figures in scoring including Andrew Glaze with 15 points and six rebounds, Pipkin with 13 points and seven boards, Ethan McIntyre scored 13 points and finished with eight rebounds while Braxton Benham contributed 12 points, eight assists, and four steals.

David Clark led Campbell with 17 points. Jeremiah Wilkinson and Ahmir Crum followed with 15 and 14 points, respectively, for the Spartans (4-5).


Chaney was named the tournament's Most Valuable Player. Benham, Pipkin, and Glaze were all named to the All-Tournament Team.

Cass (8-4) returns to action Tuesday, January 5 at home when the Colonels host Blessed Trinity in both team’s Region 7-AAAAA opener.
