Cougars take non-conference doubleheader at GHC
Georgia Highlands College softball dropped both games of a home non-conference doubleheader Monday at Stars Field in Cassville falling 7-3 and 10-5 to Cleveland State CC.
The Chargers fell behind early in both games.
In the opening game, the Lady Cougars led 2-0 after three innings and were up 6-0 following the top of the sixth.
In the second game, Cleveland State led 4-0 after three frames and carried a 10-1 lead into the bottom of the seventh.
Abigail Lathrop led the GHC offense with three hits and two RBIs in the doubleheader. Audrey Johnson had two hits including a home run and two RBIs. Annsley Todd and Allison Deweese also contributed a pair of hits. Madison Dennis (RBI), Brady Tharp (RBI), Daisy Brown (double), Jordan Blair (double), Sydney Goddard (triple, RBI), and Avery Fisher (double) added one hit apiece.
Jaycie Hand (5.1 IP, 6R, 5ER, 7H, 1BB, 5K) was the Chargers’ pitcher of record in the first game. Rena Fraga (3 IP, 4R, 2ER, 4H, 1BB) started in the circle in the second game. Emma Veitch (5.2 IP, 7R, 4ER, 7H, 0BB, 6K) pitched in both games.
Cleveland State improved to 29-16 with the two wins.
Georgia Highlands (18-26, 12-8) returns to Georgia Collegiate Athletic Association conference play Wednesday with a doubleheader at Gordon State.
