Cross country roundup: Canes run fourth at Pickens & Grinnin' Invite

The Cartersville boys placed fourth of 17 teams, and the Lady Canes placed seventh of 16 teams Friday at the Pickens & Grinnin’ Cross Country Invitational, held at Roper Park in Jasper.


The Canes finished behind Oconee County, Chattahoochee, and South Forsyth. Northview won the girls’ race.


Scoring runners for the Cartersville boys were Will Feuerbach (6th, 16:33), Barrett Stepp (13th, 16:44), Kaleb Lanier (27th, 17:11), Ethan Empie (33rd, 17:23), and Hayden Mitchell (35th, 17:25).


Top finishers for the Lady Canes were Sofia Burns (5th, 19:06), Kylie Ham (35th, 21:29), Jordan Hathaway (71st, 22:45), Hadley Finnemore (77th, 22:57), and Samantha Stepp (84th, 23:08)


The Adairsville girls and boys did not field full teams for scoring, but Johnathan Ringwell (12th, 18:13) and Aaron Souders (82nd, 20:45) had the best runs for the Tigers. Fernanda Singer (48th, 24:30) represented the Lady Tigers.




WOODLAND XC COMPETES AT FAST BREAK CHALLENGE


On Tuesday, October 8, the Woodland cross country teams competed at the Ringgold Fast Break Challenge, which was hosted by Heritage-Catoosa High School.


The Wildcats placed fifth of 28 teams.  The boys’ race included 190 runners. The Lady Cats finished seventh of 22 teams. The girls’ race included 155 competitors.


Top runners for the Woodland boys were Juan Mendoza (4th, 16:58), Will Parker (24th, 18:09), James Morris (33rd, 18:28), Gabe Hardin (41st, 19:01), and Logan Marr (72nd, 19:45).


Allison Snead finished 7th overall in 21:30 to lead the Lady Cats. She was followed by teammates Miranda Pelow (20th, 22:24), Addison Brown (34th, 23:41), Abby George (65th, 25:39), and Sophia St. James (83rd, 27:01).


Adairsville will host Cass, Excel, and six other schools on Thursday for the Adairsville Invitational. On Saturday, Cartersville is scheduled to run in the Randolph Invitational in Huntsville, Alabama. Woodland travels to Whitesburg for the Coach Wood Invitational on Saturday.
