Defensive miscues cost Cass in loss to Calhoun
In an error plagued game Wednesday night at the Cass Athletic Complex, Calhoun took advantage of nine unearned runs on the Yellow Jackets way to a 12-6 win over the Cass Lady Colonels.
The two teams combined for 13 miscues in the contest with all six of the Cass runs unearned.
The visiting Yellow Jackets led 7-0 when Cass finally broke the ice to get on the scoreboard. The Colonels narrowed the margin to 7-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning, but that would be as close as they would get.
Calhoun added five more runs in the sixth inning for a 12-5 lead and Cass managed one more run in the bottom of the seventh.
Avery Greeson and Athens Hudson combined in the pitching circle for Calhoun to limit Cass to only five hits. Greeson earned the win with four innings of work. Hudson was credited with a save.
Sydney Bullard, Aryian Berner, and Maggy Abernathy led the Jackets offense combining for six hits (two each) and four RBIs.
Emma Gibson (5.1 IP, 10R, 3ER, 6H, 5BB, 4K) suffered the pitching loss for Cass. Alexis Woods (1.2 IP, 2R, 0ER, 2H, 1BB) closed out the final five outs in the circle for the Colonels.
Darianna Sosa had two hits and two RBIs to pace the Cass offense. Alexis Woods also finished with two hit including a double. Ansley Hight added one hit and one RBI.
Calhoun improved to 11-3 overall and 6-1 in Region 7-AAAAA.
Cass (6-9, 3-3) travels to Hiram next Tuesday at 5:55 p.m. and will host Cartersville next Thursday at 5:55 p.m.
