Dow tosses no-hitter; Chargers move to 6-0
Georgia Highlands College pitcher Johnny Dow tossed a seven inning no-hitter Sunday and the Chargers completed a four-game sweep of visiting Snead State Community College in games played at the LakePoint Sports Complex in Emerson.
In Game 1 of Sunday’s doubleheader, Dow tossed a complete game without allowing a walk or hit. The former Lassiter Trojans' right hand hurler fanned four Parsons’ batters in a 6-0 victory. Conor Todaro and David Smith paced the Chargers’ offense with two hits each. Todaro’s two hits included a double. Smith’s two hits contributed a pair of RBIs. Trace Twardoski had an RBI double. Joe Sutton, Trenton Parker, and Gavin Harmon (RBI) added one hit apiece.
In Game 2, Georgia Highlands scored three times in the bottom of the sixth inning on their way to a 6-3 win. Zack Valentine (1 IP, 3ER, 4H, 2BB) was credited with the pitching win despite allowing all three of the Snead State runs in the top of the sixth. Garrett Sagro (1 IP, 0R, 2H, 2K) got through the final frame to earn a save. Jacob Ryan (4 IP, 0R, 3H, 3K) started on the mound for the Chargers. Matthew Silka (1 IP, 0R, 1H, 2K) worked the fifth inning for GHC.
Eight different Chargers had one hit each in the second game. Smith (triple, 2 RBIs), Palmer Sapp (RBI), Harmon (RBI), and Brandon Prince (RBI) each drove in runs. Mickey Maguire, Max Kops, Mitchell Walker, Ben Olson, and Todaro (triple) had the other Georgia Highlands base hits. Harmon drove in a run with a sacrifice fly.
Georgia Highlands (6-0) hosts Wallace State-Hanceville Tuesday in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m. The Chargers then host Lincoln Trail College Friday and Saturday in a three-game series.
