Eagles come up short at Christian Heritage


With just over three minutes remaining Friday night at Christian Heritage, the Excel Christian Academy boys were within four points of the Lions at 69-65.


Over those final three minutes, however, Christian Heritage outscored ECA 10-1 for an eventual 13-point win.


Excel stayed close most of the night. The Eagles led much of the first quarter before the Lions tied the score at 17-17 by the end of the opening eight minutes. Christian Heritage led 35-25 at halftime and held a 57-49 advantage after three quarters.


The Eagles made a nice charge in the first five minutes of the final period before the unbeaten Lions pulled away down the stretch.


Jax Abernathy led Christian Heritage with 45 points. Cash Hare added 13 for the Lions (12-0).


Kyron McClendon led Excel with 22 points. Jacob Taylor followed with 20. Jakaden Barkley scored 15 points, David Jinks and Comari Nettles added five and four points, respectively.


Excel Christian (6-8) hosts Lyndon Academy of Woodstock Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m.
