Eagles soar past Dragons


The Excel Christian Academy boys basketball team took an early lead Thursday night against visiting Pepperell and extended their lead in each period on their way to a 62-39 non-region win over the Dragons.

The Eagles led 14-8 at the end of the initial period and held a 28-16 advantage at the intermission. Excel extended its lead to 48-21 after three quarters on the way to a 23-point win. Jakaden Barkley led Excel and all scorers with 27 points. He added five rebounds, five assists, and three steals for the Eagles. Jacob Taylor scored 19 points with five assists and four steals. Elijah Payne contributed a double-double with 14 points and 16 rebounds for the Eagles. Payne also blocked six shots.

Elliott Gogins was the top scorer for Pepperell with eight points. Gage Owens added six for the Dragons (0-2).

ECA (3-2) hosts Harvest Baptist Academy next Thursday night and will play at Cornerstone Prep Academy Saturday, December 11.
