Early deficit grounds Eagles in tourney finals

Bishop Moore Catholic of Orlando used a balanced scoring attack to overcome the Excel Christian Academy boys 75-61 in the championship game of the Green Bracket at the KSA Holiday Tournament on Wednesday.
The Hornets (7-5) built a 10-point lead in the first quarter and maintained that advantage at the intermission, 35-25. Bishop Moore led the Eagles 54-43 at the end of the third quarter.
Senior Jisiah White led Bishop Moore with a game-high 18 points, while Ryder DeVoe added 12, Tre Mathis contributed 11, and Cam Sykes rounded out the double-figure scorers with 10 points.
Excel Christian kept pace through three quarters behind 17 points from Jamari Gatson and 13 from Damir McBride. Jaydon Jinks chipped in nine points for the Eagles who couldn’t overcome the early deficit.
ECA (13-4) will return to action on Friday, Jan. 9, when they travel to face The Stonehaven School in Marietta.
